Description

Our home was built in 1864, as the home for a Naval captain. It is full of recently restored beautiful period features spread over three floors and >3,000 ft2. We fully renovated and modernised the entire house in 2015/16 as well as landscaping the gardens. We have a large garage and drive for off road parking for two cars. Although we have retained and renovated the original features such as ornate ceiling cornicing, shuttering and fireplaces all the amenities behind the scenes are completely new and in an up-to-date style but in keeping with the original house. The bathrooms and kitchen are new and have features such as underfloor heating, an induction hob on an island, a wine fridge and wifi controlled kitchen lighting. There are several large screen but unobtrusive TVs each with independent cable TV. All flooring and walls have been renovated with largely original wooden flooring and Farrow and Ball paint colour schemes. There is a study in the top floor with antique desk, armchair, hifi and direct cable internet. There is a large patio to the rear with a barbecue and secluded and well lit dining and seating areas.

Location

Edinburgh is a breathtakingly beautiful capital city which has parts that look like they are a Harry Potter set (the author of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, lived in our part of town so no doubt took inspiration from the architecture). Nearby there are large parklands including an extinct volcano in Holyrood Park, and The Meadows, both in the middle of the city. Our house is in a leafy part of town called The Grange, which is a quiet residential area full of mansion houses and delis, yet is within a 20 minute walk of all the city's attraction such as Edinburgh Casle, The Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace and The Royal Yacht Britannia. There is loads for kids to do too, and also 5 Michelin starred restaurants. We are a 25 minute taxi ride from the airport and well located to get to Scotland's beautiful Highlands and Islands. For the whole of August the world's largest arts event takes place in the city: The Edinburgh Festival and Fringe with tens of thousands of performances and performers from all over the world, as well as the famous Edinburgh Tattoo. There are 23 golf courses within the city alone and hundreds more within an hour's drive. There are some great beaches just 20 minutes drive away.
